Creating Content | How to Unblock Your Content-stipation

It's actually exceptionally easy to create content.

That's the simple truth.

If you are reading this, chances are that you are literate — you are capable of writing with words. When those words are read by another human being, that person is able to understand what you were thinking.

I'm willing to bet that you are also able to speak words — and those words are also intelligible by beings of your same species. You might even have a smartphone with a video-camera built in!

So, you are able to create content.

Then, what is it that stops us?

Your Content Sucks

Stripped of any flowery language, explanations (read 'excuses'), or advanced reasoning... this is the thought that stops people from creating.

"This sucks."

It's easy to type out or speak in stream of thought. You could create 'content' about anything in a reasonably short period of time, but the thing that actually stops us is our own self-judgement.

I haven't seen the content you have yet to create, so I can't assure you that it doesn't suck (if you have created anything please share in the comments below and I will share my thoughts). Maybe it does. I can actually say with quite strong confidence that it probably does/will at first. But there is genuinely only one remedy for this ailment...

The Cure to Content-stipation

I won't say the cure is to practice.

I will say that the cure it to create.

There is a certain miraculous wonder in the ability to write and speak. It is something we take for granted because seemingly everyone can do it, even from a young age. But the ability to convey the contents of our minds to another living being, and for them to understand, is truly profound.

When you create anything, it is genuinely unique. Even if you say the same thing twice, your inflection, facial expressions, timing, and many other things, will vary slightly and it will never be the same way twice.

"The thing I love about rivers is, you can't step in the same river twice." ~Pocahontas

Every time you do something, you learn and improve at it. The problem is that usually the improvement is so incremental you won't notice. It is only after you create 10, 20, maybe 100 pieces of content and look back at the first piece, that you will notice the dramatic shift in quality, and easy at which you are able to be creative.

Pray in Secret

So create, but don't feel that you must share what you create. You can write or record a video every day — even multiple times per day — and you will still improve even if nobody sees it. Just take that step forward and if you get an urge or idea to create, stop stopping yourself!

Journaling/Reflection Prompt

What is a thought, concept, quote, or process that has made a profound shift in your life? Write about it as if you're giving advice to a younger version of yourself (before you knew this thing). And then please share what you've written in the comments below so we can all benefit!
